My experience studying and working at Harvard University and  Schlumberger-Doll Research showed me fascinating applications of mathematics and inspired me to introduce mathematics to young children. Over the years, through teaching both small and large groups independently and with Math Kangaroo USA, I’ve acquired a deep understanding of the challenges that school-age students face in learning mathematics. 

It’s best for families to start supporting their children’s mathematical journey early. The thinking habits they form and the strategies they develop when  approaching new math problems significantly shape their learning style. Children should be exposed to the type of mathematics that encourages exploration, stimulates curiosity, and strengthens logical reasoning. Students who regularly challenge themselves with high-quality mathematics from middle school onward will find high school calculus or Advanced Placement exams far more manageable. Those who build a strong foundation in mathematics and are introduced to its real-world applications in high school will feel more confident and empowered as they enter college.
